This summer saw Shire Horse Society junior members competing in young handler classes across the country.
Each year the Society runs a young handler accumulator competition with points awarded at affiliated shows. These classes aim to encourage younger members to gain confidence showing and looking after Shire horses.
With the showing season now completed, this year’s competition was close with Kayden Barnett securing first prize for the third year in a row with second place going to George Beardmore and third place to Miles Chester.
Win or lose, it is the taking part that counts and congratulations to all those who entered.

The competition will run again in 2026, and we look forward to seeing and encouraging our members in the ring. Many members borrow horses to show in the young handler classes and if you are showing and have a suitable horse to lend, please do consider making someone’s day by offering your horse, if suitable, to help them get involved at a show.
A 2026 junior membership at £15.00 makes a great gift and is available to purchase online at www.shire-horse.org.uk/membership.
