The Shire Horse Society is introducing a new annual Breeder of the Year Award scheme from 2024. 

Proposed by the Editing Committee and approved by Council last autumn, the scheme adds to the ways the Society encourages and supports breeders. The Awards, which are open to UK members of the Society, will recognise and reward breeders through the quality of Shires they have bred, based on horses doing well in the show ring.

During the showing season, pure-bred in-hand mares, fillies, stallions, colts and foals that were bred and reside in the UK will be eligible to win points at the shows listed below. The points won will accrue to their breeders, regardless of who is the current owner, with prizes for the three top-scoring breeders to be announced at the National Show the following year. The prizes for 2024, generously sponsored by Editing Committee members Jason Holder, David Yates and Jonathan Worthington, are: 1st £500, 2nd £300 and 3rd £100.
