The Shire Horse Society is delighted to announce its new President, Mr John Robinson from Cheshire. Mr Robinson takes over the Presidency, previously held by Her Royal Highness the Countess of Wessex.
Mr Robinson’s family-run business, Robinsons Brewery in Stockport are great supporters of the Shire horse and the Society. So much so, they have had Shire horses in their business for over one hundred years!
Mr Robinson said “It is a huge honour and privilege to have been asked to be the next President of this fantastic society. This breed is fantastically important to me and the industry that I work in, without the famous shire we as a business would not be where we are today. – nor for that matter would our great country. They are a huge part of our history and I very much hope for them to be a huge part of our future.
I very much look forward to meeting many of you over the next year or so around showgrounds and farms around the country.”
With the decline in the breed, Robinsons Brewery in 2018 embarked on their own breeding programme to help preserve and promote the Shire horse and have since welcomed some super foals.
Their working Shires can be seen at the brewery’s Society approved visitor centre, at shows or around the streets of Stockport.
Victoria Clayton, Chief Executive said ‘’The Society is very pleased to welcome John as our new President. Robinsons Brewery Shire horses not only have working horses but also the new breeding programme and this is very exciting for the future. We have enjoyed a working relationship with the brewery for a number of years and look forward to further cementing this going forward.’
Next year’s National Shire Horse Show will take place at Newark Showground, Nottinghamshire on 11th and 12th March, the world’s biggest Shire horse show in the world.
